To me there is nothing more telling than seeing a child's footprints in the snow. So innocent ... are they dragging their feet as they walk? Toes straight ahead?
When they walk up the driveway and come back ... did they follow the same path or go a different way? |

| The box in the attic |
[Jan. 15th, 2008|08:19 pm] |
The only box I can think of that's in our attic at this point is the air conditioner blower. How in the world did they get that up there? What kind of nightmare is it going to be to remove if / when we have to replace it? |

I didn't write it but I LOVE THIS. It reminds me of Olivia :)

| Blank Stare |
[Jan. 14th, 2008|01:31 pm] |
... It's the look Arnie gave me when we were fighting yesterday and I asked him if he thought about a cake for my birthday. Because I don't care about the cake but the kids care. ... It's the look Maddie gives me when I ask her to give me the meaning of a word on spelling sentence days. ...It's me staring into the fire we started in our fireplace yesterday. First time we've had a fire in this house and it was just perfection.

| Been a bad journal buddy |
[Jul. 28th, 2006|03:44 pm] |
I'm sorry I've been such a bad journal buddy lately. I have been insanely busy ...
I was laid off effective this coming up Monday. I was notified last Friday. Thankfully things seem to be pretty good for jobs - I've had countless phone calls from recruiters and have had two phone interviews with companies. The only concern I have is that I'm hearing that I was making about $10K more a year than the current market average for software engineers (insert faint smiley ;))
So that's why I've been MIA - and if anyone knows of anyone hiring a software engineer with extensive java experience - send them my way. |

| The Brave Little Soul |
[Dec. 29th, 2005|01:58 pm] |

The Brave Little Soul By: John Alessi
Not too long ago in Heaven there was a little soul who took wonder in observing the world. He especially enjoyed the love he saw there and often expressed this joy with God. One day however, the little soul was sad, for on this day he saw suffering in the world. He approached God and sadly asked, "Why do bad things happen, why is there suffering in the world?".
God paused for a moment and replied, "Little soul, do not be sad, for the suffering you see, unlocks the love in peoples hearts". The little soul was confused. "What do you mean", he asked. God replied, "Have you not noticed the goodness and love that is the offspring of that suffering? Look at how people come together, drop their differences, and show their love and compassion for those who suffer. All their other motivations disappear and they become motivated by love alone.
The little soul began to understand and listened attentively as God continued, "The suffering soul unlocks the love in people's hearts much like the sun and rain unlock the flower within the seed. I created everyone with endless love in their heart, but unfortunately most people keep it locked up and hardly share it with anyone. They are afraid to let their love shine freely, because they are afraid of being hurt. But a suffering soul unlocks that love. I tell you this-it is the greatest miracle of all. Many souls have bravely chosen to go into the world and suffer-to unlock this love-to create this miracle-for the good of all humanity.
Just then the little soul got a wonderful idea and could hardly contain himself. With his wings fluttering, bouncing up and down, the little soul excitedly replied, "I am brave; let me go! I would like to go into this world and suffer so that I can unlock the goodness and love in people's hearts! I want to create that miracle!
God smiled and said, "You are a brave soul I know, and thus I will grant your request. But even though you are very brave you will not be able to do this alone. I have known since the beginning of time that you would ask for this and so I have carefully selected many souls to care for you on your journey. Those souls will help you create your miracle; however they will also share in your suffering. Two of these souls are most special and will care for you, help you and suffer along with you, far beyond the others. They have already chosen a name for you.
God and the brave little soul shared a smile, and then embraced. In parting, God said, "Do not forget little soul that I will be with you always. Although you have agreed to bear the pain, you will do so through my strength. And if the time should come when you feel that you have suffered enough, just say the word, think the thought, and you will be healed.
Thus at that moment the brave little soul was born into the world, and through his suffering and God's strength he unlocked the goodness and love in people's hearts. For so many people dropped their differences and came together to show their love. Priorities became properly aligned. People gave from their hearts. Those that were always too busy found time. Many began new spiritual journeys-some regained lost faith-many came back to God. Parents hugged their children tighter. Friends and family grew closer. Old friends got together and new friendships were made. Distant family reunited, and every family spent more time together. Everyone prayed. Peace and love reigned. Lives were changed forever. It was good. The world was a better place. The miracle had happened. God was pleased. |

| Maddie Sayings... Uncle Chris and Kistopher |
[Oct. 10th, 2003|02:10 pm] |
She's too funny.
Christopher is her buddy, her best friend and pal. But it's not Christopher, it's "Kistopher". Yet, when she refers to my BIL, Christopher's father, it's "Uncle Chris" I hate to correct her on it because I just think it's so cute the way she says it. And I know she's going to get it "right" one day and it'll all be gone.
She also can immitate her teacher's accent. She says "We have two Cameron's in class. Cameron C and Cam-er-ooon" with an accent . Everytime she says that I'm LOL |

| Shake your booty |
[Oct. 10th, 2003|09:15 am] |
While I was in the shower this morning, Maddie was in the bathroom getting dressed. She started singing "Shake Your Booty". I was LOL . After I got out of the shower, I showed her how to shake her booty. She was sticking her little butt out and shaking it.
She's too funny |

| Talking on the phone |
[Oct. 9th, 2003|08:35 am] |
Last night my sister called Arnie to talk to him about his friend applying at her company. She works as an HR person at a very large insurance company. Anyway, that's not important to my story.
My sister gets finished talking to Arnie and says that Christopher would like to talk to Maddie.
They proceeded to have a 2 minute conversation! Arnie said it was very sweet |

| Interesting thoughts on getting back to program |
[Oct. 9th, 2003|08:30 am] |
At the Weight Watchers meeting last night the leader made a very interesting point that really hit home for me.
When she goes off program, she gets back on as soon as possible. So if she eats a gallon of ice cream in the afternoon, she makes sure she eats a "regular" dinner (measuring out her chicken, pasta, whatever). So the next morning she's not thinking "Man, I blew it yesterday" She's thinking "I'm already back on program"
This was a very powerful thing for me. Because once I "blow" it, I don't get back on program for days, weeks or even months. Today, I'm on program. Journaled everything and back on track |

| Maddie & Arnie |
[Oct. 7th, 2003|02:07 pm] |
Maddie ate a ton of food last night for dinner. She had a hot dog and tator tots. She was still hungry and asked for oatmeal. I made that and she ate most of it, plus some chips AND some feta cheese :). She's her mommy's girl when it comes to cheese. She wanted parmesan cheese ("Sprinkle cheese") on her oatmeal :pukey :lol
Our relationship
I've been making an extra effort with Arnie lately. I'm so blessed to have him. And I totally take him for granted. The things he does for us: makes lunches for everyone; drop off / pick up from DC; makes Maddie's dinner if she's not eating what I'm cooking; plays with her; gives her a bath and reads her books.
For some reason, since I met Tracey (my old friend Sean's wife), I've been really trying to show Arnie how much I love him. When I talked to Tracey, I said to her "You've got yourself a really great guy". Because Sean is a great guy. But, so is ARNIE! And he's right in front of me, in our house, loving us. Why do I keep pushing him away?
So I've been really trying. I make sure I tell him I love him. I've suggested we switch off the bathtime / bedtime routines. So one of us bathes her and the other reads books. It seems to be working well thus far. I've been playing with Maddie while he cleans up so he can get that done sooner.
I started reading the Discipline Book. Wow. It's really good and very powerful. In just the first chapter it really has me evaluating my relationship with Maddie Rose. I need to work on getting closer to her, so I can understand where she's coming from. Don't get me wrong, Maddie is an most of the time. It's just that Arnie and I could handle some situations better. |
